Am I eligible?
As part of New York’s solar incentives, solar energy gets discounted to a lower rate than your regular electricity. Let’s break it down into a tangible example:
Let’s say you pay $0.17/kWh for electricity through your utility.
When you sign up for Community Solar, a portion of your electricity gets replaced with solar energy every month. That solar energy gets discounted below your regular electricity rate of $0.17/kWh.
In your first month, that solar portion might be $0.165/kWh. In your second month, it could be $0.155/kWh. In your third, $0.16/kWh. And so on.
See how solar energy costs less than regular electricity? Solar energy rates will stay under your $0.17/kWh because New York pays Community Solar users a rebate for participating. This guaranteed rebate is distributed as a discount and will altogether add up to 10% of the annual cost of electricity you would pay for without Community Solar.
